President Trump appears to be intent in shooting himself in
the foot. The investigation of possible collusion with the Russians on
interference with our elections continues and he throws fire on the flame by
appearances of his interfering with them. While his tweets and campaign-style
rallies continue, his whole agenda has tanked. Approaching six months in office
we might ask: where is the wall, where is repeal and replacement of Obamacare, where
is tax reform, where are trade agreements renegotiations. I think he said that
they were to be high priority from the start. And this can’t be blamed on the
Democrats—having lost it all in the election, they are sitting out the game.
It might be well for Mr. Trump to review his predecessor’s
first six months in office. Mr. Obama was blasted by viscous and unfounded
accusations that he was not born in the US
and was therefore an African immigrant not qualified to be the U.S. President.
Mr. Obama faced—on his first day in office--a disastrous recession and banks on
the verge of failure followed by the auto industry nearing insolvency, the
highest unemployment rate in decades and flag-draped caskets arriving daily at
Dover. But he didn’t tweet—he rolled up his sleeves and led a recovery that,
while bashed by his political opponents, will go down in history as monumental.
But whether Mr. Trump follows the Obama model or not, it’s
time for him to put aside his tweets and attacks and get down to business.
